Virginia member Robert Beach, AIA, made the news recently for his work with the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association (TPSMA).

The group hopes to honor the lives of the suffragists who worked for the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. The memorial, which was designed by Beach, would be located at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton.  The TPSMA is currently fundraising for the 7–9 million-dollar memorial which they hope to see built before 2020 — the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment.

The next fundraising event will be Wednesday, May 20 from 7-10 p.m. at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna. For more information about the event and the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association, go to www.suffragistmemorial.org.
