Design Control Officer

This important role ensures that multi-family deals financed or allocated tax credits by Virginia Housing are designed and constructed to meet stringent quality assurance measures through the review of architectural and engineering drawings, reports, and specifications, portions of Low-income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) applications, and other contract documents. Additionally, this position monitors construction and considers initial and long-term costs, aesthetics, function, needs of tenants, market trends, maintenance/replacement costs, and accessibility compliance. This is an outward-facing role that works closely with both internal and external partners.

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Several years’ experience in the field of architecture or engineering project management.
  • Knowledge and experience with local and state building codes.
  • Knowledge and experience with multifamily design and construction.
  • Valid driver’s license.

The ideal candidate would also have experience in:

  • Professional Certification: N.C.A.R.B. registration and license to practice architecture from the Commonwealth of Virginia, or Professional Engineer License from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Hiring Range: $95,000 – $128,000
A background check will be performed as a condition of employment.
A Conflict-of-Interest Act Disclosure form and Secondary Employment Disclosure form will need to be completed as a condition of employment.
Virginia Housing requires associates to live and work within the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Architect / Project Manager
City of Virginia Beach | Virginia Beach, VA

The City of Virginia Beach is hiring an Architect / Project Manager to support the planning, design, and delivery of the City’s capital improvement projects. This role ensures compliance with City standards through technical review, coordination with internal and external partners, and resolution of complex design challenges. The Architect supports budgeting, staff guidance, and public communication to keep projects on schedule and aligned with City goals.

  • Provide comprehensive architectural support in all areas of architecture for the development of capital projects such as those in the City’s six-year capital improvement program, including cost estimates, and related items for the City to budget for its capital improvement projects
  • Review design and inspection activities on complex projects; provide training and assistance to professional staff in preparation or review of design drawings
  • Investigate and resolve difficult technical development and operational problems
  • May assist in the planning, direction and management of a major operational bureau
  • Coordinate projects with several interdepartmental agencies and the private sector to meet project goals; and provide recommendations as staff input for Planning Commission and City Council actions to assure that special needs of the City are met
  • Provide technical responses to citizen inquiries to properly inform them as well as incorporate their input

The ideal candidate is a licensed Architect with strong experience in project management, construction and design, and municipal capital projects. They bring proven expertise in schedule and cost control, contract administration, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget. This candidate demonstrates sound judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to upholding City standards and best architectural practices.
