The implementation of the latest Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code is anticipated to be March 1, 2011.  The code was adopted in November by the Department of Housing and Community Development, but its implementation was delayed in anticipation of “petitions” to several sections.

These petitions — or appeals for amendments — can be reviewed at http://www.dhcd.virginia.gov/StateBuildingCodesandRegulations/2009CodeChangeCycle.htm.  In the top section of this DHCD web page is a “Notice” dated Nov. 23, 2010.  Imbedded within it is a link to the petition summaries.  Anyone wishing to make a written comment based upon these summaries should do so before Dec. 22, when the 30-day comment period ends.

The DHCD Board will review the petitions and comments at its Jan. 24, 2011 meeting, after which it will have two days in which to submit to the registrar any changes it approves to the 2009 edition of the VUSBC.
