Virginia Code Grace Period to Expire

The Virginia Universal Statewide Building Code 2012 was made effective July 14, 2014, therefore the one year adoption grace period is coming to an end this July, 2015.

The Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) contains the building regulations that must be complied with when constructing a new building, structure, or an addition to an existing building. They must also be used when maintaining or repairing an existing building or renovating or changing the use of a building or structure.

With the adoption of the 2012 code in Virginia, we thought this would be a good time to expand our offerings in regards to code seminars. To supplement the full day, complete look of the 2012 code, the course titled 2012 IBC Significant Changes, we are offering half day summaries of the new code in courses titled 2012 Update. In addition, we are aware that the District of Columbia and Maryland have adopted the IgCC, and we are offering a full day seminar covering these topics in Northern Virginia later this year. New 2012 Virginia Codes Effective July 14

The final regulations for the 2012 Virginia code update process were published in the April 7, 2014 Virginia Register. The publication of the regulations starts a 30-day final period, and any petitions for reconsideration, which may be filed, will be identified at the May meeting of the Board of Housing and Community Development. The effective date of the 2012 Virginia Codes will be July 14, 2014. Code sections under petition may be suspended as necessary until resolution. These regulations are the culmination of a two-year process, which included 12 work group meetings of a wide array of stakeholders from various organizations, industries and agencies participated. In addition to the workgroup meetings, there were eight sub-work groups that worked on specific technical issues before they were vetted at the work group meetings.
