Lori Garrett, AIALori Garrett, AIA, has been selected as the winner of the first annual ATHENA Leadership Award presented by the AIA in partnership with Athena International. This honor celebrates exemplary leadership in the profession. Garrett was honored at the 2010 Women’s Leadership Development Summit during a celebration luncheon on Sept. 24.

ATHENA Leadership Award honorees must demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative within the design professions; provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community; and actively assist women within the design professions in achieving their full leadership potential.  “Lori has begun to use her experience to help other women find their way to leadership in their own careers,” says John Braymer, Ph.D., Executive Director of the VSAIA.  “As Secretary of the Virginia Society AIA,” he continues, “Lori committed herself to helping other women rise to professional leadership by working with other women to establish Virginia Women in Design, a professional interest area of the VSAIA, for women from across the design professions.”
