Grumpy Old Man
The “Grumpy Old Man” is a simple, modern bourbon cocktail (bourbon, ginger ale, and lime juice). The name “Grumpy Old Man” appears to be a modern, playful label that alludes to the drink’s bold, unapologetic flavor profile and its simple, old-school ingredients, rather than complex or trendy mixers. The name is meant to be endearing and a little cheeky, suggesting a simple drink for someone who knows what they like and is perhaps “grumpy” about modern fads. The drink’s history is tied to its simplicity (just bourbon, ginger ale, and lime). It is a twist on a Moscow Mule (which uses vodka) or a Kentucky Mule (which uses bourbon), providing a familiar but distinct flavor:
