Architect
Membership at the Architect level is open to architects licensed in the U.S.

Associate
Membership at the Associate level is open to people with a professional degree in architecture, those enrolled in AXP or working under an architect, or faculty who do not have a U.S.-issued architecture license.

AIA Virginia Unassigned Member
Unassigned membership in AIA Virginia is intended for individuals who maintain active membership in another local AIA chapter and the national AIA but wish to keep abreast of and participate in AIA Virginia activities.
Unassigned membership entitles individuals to participate in AIA Virginia-sponsored events and programs at the member discount rate and to receive regular society notifications. Since AIA members are eligible to vote in only one AIA Chapter, unassigned members are not eligible to vote in AIA Virginia elections, hold a position on the Board of Directors, or represent the Chapter as a delegate to any meeting of the Institute.
AIA Virginia Allied Member
AIA Virginia Allied Members support architects throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Not otherwise eligible for AIA membership, Allied Members are a vital support for the profession. AIA Virginia allied membership is open to all affiliated professionals, service providers, and product representatives in the building and construction industry.
Note: If you become an allied member with AIA Virginia, this membership does not transfer to the local Virginia chapter membership. Please see their respective websites for information about supporting a local chapter.
