DESCRIPTION:THIS SEMINAR HAS BEEN CANCELLED \nThis seminar focuses on the minimum requirements for new or existing construction of accessible commercial facilities for compliance with the 2012 International Building Code (IBC) and ICC A117.1-2009 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. It addresses the design\, plan review and inspection of commercial buildings to ensure that people with physical impairments\, visual impairments and hearing impairments can use the facilities. \nUpon completion\, participants will be better able to: \n• Recognize which accessibility requirements are enforceable by the building official. \n• Determine the extent to which accessibility code provisions apply to the design and construction of any facility\, as well as the alteration or change of occupancy of an existing building. \n• Identify the basis for the technical requirements set forth in the referenced standard. \n• Identify scoping and technical requirements for: \n— Exterior accessible routes (accessible routes criteria\, accessible parking spaces\, curb ramps and signage); \n— Accessible entry and means of egress (entrances\, means of egress\, areas of refuge); \n— Interior accessible routes (accessible route criteria\, elevators\, lifts\, ramps and doors); \n— Building features and facilities (toilet and bathing facilities\, drinking fountains and customer service facilities); \n— Dwelling and sleeping units (transient lodging and institutional units); \n— Assembly seating\, self-service storage facilities\, and judicial facilities; and \n— Existing structure requirements in IBC Chapter 34 and the 2012 International Existing  Building Code (IEBC). \n  \n6 AIA/CES Learning Units (HSW) \n$170 for AIA member registration   (Continental breakfast\, and lunch included) \n$230 for non-AIA registration     (Continental breakfast\, and lunch included) \n8:15 a.m. – 4 p.m. (class begins at 8:40) \nLocation: Virginia Center for Architecture\, 2501 Monument Ave. Richmond\, VA 23220 \nCANCELLED \nREGISTRATION DEADLINE: 5 p.m. on Friday\, June 6\, 2014 \nQuestions? Please contact Jim Walker at 804-237-1777 or jwalker@aiava.org
