SUMMARY:2017 AIA Northern Virginia Architecture Week: Modular House Construction Tour
DESCRIPTION:2017 AIA Northern Virginia Architecture Week\nAlexandria \n“Modular House Construction Tour” \n5447 Fillmore Ave\, Alexandria\, 22311 \nAccording to the Washington Business Journal\, this is the first house added to the city’s housing inventory since 2015. Located on the West End of Alexandria\, the house will be built in less than 90 days using a variety of systems. Architect/owner\, Eric Teran\, will lead the tour and explain of all the systems used to build the prefabricated house. The contractor and vendors will also be there to discuss the different systems that were used in the project. \nUtilizing systems from Superior Walls and Excel Homes\, the house was enclosed in 30 days. Superior Walls are factory built basement walls that can also be used above grade. They are assembled with insulation\, predrilled holes and are ready for drywall. Excel Homes delivered the pre-assembled first two floors in four flatbed trailers. The floors were installed in a little over 10 hours. In addition\, efficient mini-split HVAC units were installed throughout the house and pervious materials were installed for the landscaping to allow water to stay on site. \n2 HSW LUs. Organized by the Young Architects Forum. Free to attend. \nThis event is offered as part of Virginia Architecture Week.\nFor information on all our Architecture Week activities\, click here.
