This position will be aligned with APS’s BIM Modeling and drafting team which works independently and collaboratively to develop existing conditions Revit models, CAD files and PDFs based on our field documentation. Our field documentation varies by project and client need, but will include field sketches and measurements, 3DVR documentation, and point cloud data (gathered from infrared and/or laser scanners).
This position will be focused on developing interior design direction drawings (non-permitted) for a fast-casual restaurant chain. Initially this would be a contract position with work paid on a per job basis (approx. 4-6 hours of work per assignment with a 1-2-day timeline with time for revisions). Client requested revisions will be paid hourly. We are currently averaging 1-2 of these jobs per week. This is a part time 1099 contract position with possibility of long term full time employment.
Depending on fit, skills, and availability there may be additional assignments for As-Built Documentation QC review.
Essential credentials include:
• 2 to 10 years’ experience in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Building Construction Management, or another related field.

Arlington County’s Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development (CPHD) is hiring a senior level technical/engineering professional to join it’s ISD Plan Review team as Plumbing & Mechanical Construction Plans Examiner.

This position is responsible for examining construction documents for all phases of work on commercial buildings, including new construction, additions and alterations to ensure that the building construction and its related systems comply with plumbing and mechanical design standards adopted by the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC). Projects are complex due to size, multiplicity of structures, advanced design of installed systems, and advanced construction methods and techniques.

Specific duties include:

  • Reviewing and approval of construction documents for compliance with the International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code and/or VUSBC;
  • Interpreting and enforcing codes, regulations and ordinances;
  • Conducting field visits to survey and evaluate buildings and systems;
  • Providing code consultation services to builders, developers, engineers, property owners, architects and other governmental agencies;
  • Evaluating plumbing and mechanical systems/ components to determine system will compliance with applicable codes and standards;
  • Representing the Division and County at meetings and public hearings; and
  • Developing, participating, and defending Code change proposals at local, state, and national arenas.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Minimum:

  • Associates Degree or technical school program equivalent in a field related to Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Systems Design;
  • Three years of experience in Plumbing and Mechanical Systems Engineering related to buildings and facilities; and
  • Experience interpreting construction plans.

Substitution:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction, Building Engineering or related specialization may substitute for the Associates Degree and two years of experience.
  • Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
