First appointed to the Virginia Board of People with Disabilities in 2009 to fill an unexpired term by then Gov. Tim Kaine (D), current Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has reappointed Dennis Findley, AIA, to the board for a new four-year term.

A Senior Project Architect at Bowie Gridley Architects in Washington, D.C., he has served the board on both the Community Integration and Advocacy and Outreach committees of the board.  The VBPD advises the state legislature and the governor’s office on all areas related to the needs, education and care of children and adults with any type of disability in the Commonwealth.  Over the next 10 years, the board will be involved in shaping Virginia’s transition from institutional based care for severely disabled adults to community based care mandated by the $2-billion settlement of a lawsuit between the U.S. Department of Justice and the Commonwealth.

Findley, a resident of McLean, Virginia and long-time member of the AIA, was a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District in 2010.
