The AIA conducted the following business at the Business Meeting at the 2012 national convention in Washington, D.C., took place on Saturday, May 19 between 8:15 and 10 a.m.
Bylaws Amendment Affecting Eligibility for Emeritus Status
Delegates at the Annual membership Meeting approved the bylaws amendment establishing two main criteria for achieving emeritus status as Architect or Associate member: having attained the age of 70 and having retired from the profession of architecture. These provisions became effective immediately.
Bylaws Amendment Authorizing the Board to Establish an International Region
Delegates approved the bylaws amendment authorizing the Board to establish an International Region to represent members living and working overseas.
Resolution on Associate Service
Delegates approved a resolution by the South Atlantic Region to authorize preparation of a bylaws amendment for consideration at the 2013 annual meeting that would permit component organizations to elect Associate or International Associate members to offices on component AIA boards.
Resolution on Component Allied Benefits Change
Delegates approved a resolution by AIA California Council and AIA Redwood Empire that bylaws amendments be prepared for consideration at the 2013 annual meeting that would permit allied members of component organizations to more clearly identify their status as members of the component in publications, advertising, and the like.
Resolution on Predictable, Dependable and Sustainable AIA Resources Initiative
Delegates approved a second resolution by AIA California Council and AIA Redwood Empire that the AIA establish a Revenue Sourcing and Development Task Force to “study the AIA’s revenue streams at the National, State, and local levels, the impact such sources have on National and component services and delivery, membership retention and recruitment, and the long term viability of existing revenues on the financial health and welfare of the organization.”
